Mothers’ Union

Mothers’ Union has long been part of St Paul’s, changing with the times but never losing its primary objective of strengthening Christian family life by prayer and service.

Numbering over forty, the Branch functions now in a number of different ways allowing members and friends to share in whatever appeals to them at local or diocesan level whilst being involved in a world-wide Christian organisation which plays a significant part on the world stage.  Matters such as the Jubilee Debt Campaign, protection of vulnerable children, the level of violence against women and literacy in the Third World are all high on our agenda.

In the past year we have started a new project to provide ‘Cheer-up Bags’ for little children rushed into hospital.  This is making demands on many different skills from fund-raising to sewing and is a practical outlet for our concern for families.  Our link-branch at Avondale in Harare has our on-going support through prayer and funding as they devote their efforts to helping AIDS orphans.  Our programme includes the occasional evening meeting and various social activities which supplement the monthly (second Thursday morning) meeting in the Church Lounge.  Coffee-time is around 10.30 am even if people are unable to stay to hear our speaker.

The name can mislead—we are by no means all married or mothers—nationally there are already a thousand male members... anyone is welcome and this may be just the challenge you are looking for.  If you can’t join us please pray for the work of the MU not just at St Paul’s but also in Zimbabwe and throughout the world.
