At St Paul’s we are committed to supporting the wider work of God’s Church.
To show our commitment to this we give away 15% of all our General Fund income to be generous in expressing God’s love in both word and deed.
We would like to encourage everyone in St Paul’s to ask God to place on his or her heart a mission organisation to connect with and uphold. A full list of the mission organisations that St Paul’s invests in, on behalf of our congregation, is here.
Applications are currently closed to the Mission Giving fund. Applications are open to HOMER (the amount of our tithe we have left over to distribute after we have given to our regular mission partners) until 24th April and can only be accepted from members of St Paul’s Church, St Albans. What can you do?
- Mission organisations ask for prayer. All our mission organisations have prayer letters or prayer requests for specific needs to sign up to receive. Sometimes a prayer event to attend or being asked to pray at a particular time, there are lots of creative prayer requests pass through St Paul’s.
- Voice and a presence in St Pauls are also helpful. Some organisations need someone in St Paul’s to be their voice, a representative. In St Paul’s we call these people ‘Mission Link’ people. These people help our congregation know what their chosen mission organisation is doing.
- A helping hand is always a practical way forward. Some organisations need ‘hands and feet’ to support some aspects of the work e.g. befriending. Or this might include serving refreshments at an event.
- Finance is important; for specific situations, actions or events. But often finance to pay the unseen costs organisations budget for. E.g. annual review of accounts is part of budget planning but rarely is given money towards it. It is easier to give money to a specific thing like a mini bus, but the additional costs involved (tax, MOT, insurance, maintenance) would be the unseen costs that allow the mini bus to be useful.
Organisations are usually granted assistance for a period of three years, after which the commitment is reviewed. The reviews are taken by the ma:dge group (Mission action: Do, Give, Encourage) on a 3-year rolling programme. Ma:dge makes recommendations to PCC, usually in November and the PCC have the final decisions about how the available money is to be divided.
Funds are allocated across a broad range of needs, suggested by St Paul’s members.
